We are looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated individual to head our team of technicians. Applicants should have a scientific background, experience working in an academic or industrial research lab environment and ideally previous experience of managing a small group. The successful candidate must enjoy lab work and be happy to be involved in all aspects of the technician work as the role will be split 50:50 for the management of the group and lab work. Additional requirements are the ability to work as part of a team as well as good leadership skills.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE GROUP INCLUDE
- Preparing bacterial media, including broth and agar plates
- Preparing stock solutions and buffers
- Preparation of DNA (mini, maxi or giga preps)
- Preparation of competent bacteria
- Assisting the scientists with other research work as required
- Preparing glassware, autoclaving and disposal of contaminated waste
- Ordering and receiving of reagents and stock items for all the scientists
TEAM LEADER RESPONSIBILITIES
- Management responsibilities including carrying out objective setting, appraisals and development planning for the group which currently has 5 people
- Liaising with scientists to ensure their needs are being met
- Overseeing the work and time management of the group, including organising the annual leave of the members of the technician group to ensure all duties of the team are covered adequately
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Candidates should have a BSc with relevant experience working in an academic or industrial scientific research lab.
SKILLS & COMPETENCIES
- Candidates are likely to have proven skills and competencies relevant to many of the duties and responsibilities listed above, although specific training will be provided.
Hepatitis B vaccination may be required and costs covered by Adaptimmune if necessary.
