Post-doctoral Fellow
University of California, San Diego
La Jolla, CA
A post-doctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr. John Chang at the University of California, San Diego in the fields of T cell immunobiology and bioinformatics. The lab studies T lymphocyte fate specification, maintenance, and function, with an emphasis on understanding underlying molecular mechanisms as well as clinical translation of key findings. Accordingly, the lab employs a wide range of approaches and techniques, including disease models of infection and autoimmunity in mice, single-cell transcriptomic and epigenetic approaches, and analysis of samples from patients with inflammatory bowel disease. Current projects include: (1) investigating underlying mechanisms and functional consequences of asymmetric T cell division (Chang et al., Science 2007; Chang et al., Immunity 2011; Metz et al., Journal of Immunology 2015); (2) applying single-cell transcriptomic and epigenetic approaches to investigate CD8+ T cell fate specification in response to microbial infection (Arsenio et al., Nature Immunology 2014); and (3) studying the role of integrins in the homeostasis and function of mucosal T cells in the context of gastrointestinal infections and inflammatory bowel disease.
The successful candidate will have a doctoral degree in immunology, cellular and molecular biology, or bioinformatics. A strong publication record as well as eligibility and desire to apply for future fellowships is required. The successful candidate will have excellent communication and organizational skills, the ability to develop creative approaches to experimental design, and be able to thrive both in independent research and while working collaboratively with other fellows and graduate students in the lab.
Applications should include an introductory letter with a statement of research and technical experience, current CV, and the names of references and should be sent as a single PDF to Dr. John Chang at changj@ucsd.edu.
