Postdoctoral Associate
University of Pittsburgh
Pittsburgh, PA
Position description
A Postdoctoral Associate position examining the immunology of Mycobacterium tuberculosis/HIV co-infection is available in the University of Pittsburgh’s Department of Infectious Diseases and Microbiology. The Mattila Lab uses the nonhuman primate model of tuberculosis (TB) to investigate how myeloid cells, including macrophages and neutrophils, interact with adaptive immune cells in TB, and how HIV infection disrupts protective responses to promote disease. Areas of interest include myeloid cell cytokine expression, immunometabolism in the granuloma, and collaborative projects in computational modeling. Projects will involve blood cell isolation and functional assays, as well as investigation of local immune responses at the tissue level.
Candidate qualifications
Applicants must have achieved a PhD or equivalent advanced degree prior to starting this position and have fluency in spoken and written English. The successful candidate will have a track record of publications and presentations, a strong work ethic, and be able to work well with a team. Willingness to work in a BSL3 environment is required. Desired skills include experience with cell culture, immunohistochemistry, quantitative image analysis, and flow cytometry.
Application Instructions
Applicants should submit a one page letter of interest that includes a statement describing why the candidate is interested in the position, their CV, and the contact information for three references directly to Dr. Josh Mattila (jmattila@pitt.edu).
