About the Division:
Biostatistics, Bioinformatics, & Epidemiology (BBE) is a research program within the Vaccine and Infectious Disease Division (VIDD) of the Fred Hutch. With the goal being to eliminate the mortality and morbidity of infectious diseases, members of the program conduct quantitative scientific research employing biostatistics, bioinformatics, computational biology, infectious disease epidemiology, and mathematical modeling. Members of the program collaborate extensively with laboratory and clinical science colleagues both within the Hutch and provide leadership for statistical data management centers and modeling consortia worldwide. The Statistical Center for HIV/AIDS Research & Prevention (SCHARP) is part of BBE.

About SCHARP:
The Statistical Center for HIV/AIDS Research & Prevention (SCHARP) provides statistical collaboration to infectious disease researchers around the world and conducts a complementary program of statistical methodology, and mathematical modeling research. SCHARP also collects, manages, and analyzes data from clinical trials and epidemiological studies dedicated to the elimination of infectious disease as a threat to human health.

Job Summary:
We are looking for an experienced SAS programmer to join the Operations Programming section of the SCHARP Data Management Unit. Operations Programmers provide support for management, quality control, and reporting of protocol data by developing and maintaining code, building workflows to facilitate data submission, and creating datasets and reports. The incumbent will work under minimal supervision in a team environment and is expected to communicate effectively with colleagues and be responsive to the needs of SCHARP staff as well as external collaborators as required.

Responsibilities
Programming:

  • Develop and verify SAS programs to export data from EDC (electronic data capture)
  • Develop and verify SAS programs to import/export data to/from external vendors
  • Develop and verify SAS programs to produce data listings for ongoing studies
  • Participate in the review of programs, datasets and outputs written by programmers for quality and accuracy
  • Participate in supporting programming for the database interface (such as direct source reporting, edit checks, or custom programming)
  • Support programming for special projects

Data Quality:

  • Work with other programmers to ensure that data-related issues are communicated to support the data management staff in a timely manner
  • Assess and verify data quality prior to export and/or distribution to ensure quality, consistency and accuracy

Process:

  • Adhere to established standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions
  • Assist in documenting protocol/study specific processes and practices
  • Participate in and/or lead projects that support development or improvement of processes
  • Collaborate with other SCHARP groups to develop and maintain standard programming quality practices including code standardization, verification and validation efforts, and associated documentation
  • Act as a liaison between SCHARP study teams and external vendors to ensure accurate and timely receipt/delivery of study data
  • Contribute to adoption of CDISC standards as applicable
  • Co-Author SOP and work instructions as directed/requested

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 5 years experience and progressive application of SAS programming skills
  • Experience with clinical datasets and databases
  • Experience creating programs for quality control purposes and completing quality control documentation
  • Knowledge of ICH, GCP, and other regulations related to Clinical Data Management and industry conventions
  • Must be flexible and work well in a team environment
  • Must be organized and detail-oriented, with excellent oral and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • SAS Institute programming courses such as Base, Advanced, and Macros
  • Experience with CDISC standards, SDTM conversion, clinical coding conventions, coding dictionaries and MedDRA
  • Applied knowledge of Electronic Data Capture (EDC) systems
  • Database support programming (edit checks, SQL, reporting)
  • Knowledge of R and other programming languages
