Scientist/Lead Chemist – Fluorescent Material Development: The Scientist/Lead Chemist of Fluorescent Material Development is responsible for designing and synthesizing fluorescent materials suitable for flow cytometry and cell imaging applications.
Essential Functions:
- Design and synthesis of novel fluorescent materials for use in flow cytometry, cell imaging and other research applications
- Develop new materials that will encompass the full spectrum and exhibit improved sensitivity and stability, compared to current technologies
- Set the pace for new fluorescent technology development by initiating new projects through effective communications with staff, internal biological applications teams and customers
- Utilize project management tools effectively to prioritize projects, plan staff and material resources and set achievable goals for deliverables
- Write and validate or approve protocols of syntheses
- Transfer protocols to manufacturing and train manufacturing team, as needed
Qualifications
Education
- PHD in Chemistry or related field.
Knowledge & Abilities:
- Knowledge and expertise in Material Chemistry or Organic Synthesis
- Have solid understanding of product commercialization process and requirements
- Possess broad knowledge about the structures and properties of different types of fluorescent molecules, and their application in flow cytometry and imaging systems
- Demonstrated achievement in developing and commercialization of fluorescent material with improved sensitivity and stabilities
- Publication of related work is required
- Comprehensive knowledge of a broad range of dye applications such as protein/antibody labeling, cell tracing/tracking/viability/proliferation and function, organelle and nucleic acid labeling
- Possess high level of expertise in molecule design and synthesis of fluorescent materials (e.g., small organic dye, nanocrystals and polymeric dye) and various chemical linkers
- Must be able to independently synthesize dye molecules and analyze structures through various spectroscopic methods
- Experience operating FPLC/HPLC/GPC equipment
- Must be able to set up an organic synthesis lab equipped with vacuum line and oxygen-free reactor
Experience
- 8 years of industry experience as project leader in product development with a demonstrated successful track record
